‌Bengal Mirror, Kolkata, March 27,2024: Eastern Railway is proud to commemorate the historic milestones  chieved with the introduction and  expansion of  Rajdhani Express services, marking significant moments in India’s rail history.On 3rd March 1969, Eastern Railway marked a historic moment as the its maiden run from Howrah. Initially operating as a bi-weekly train between Howrah and New Delhi, this service brought immense pride to Eastern Railway as it became the first zone to operate the most prestigious train in the country. From its humble beginnings as a bi-weekly service, the Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express has evolved over the years. Today, it operates on all seven days of the week, providing passengers with a reliable and luxurious mode of travel. The train runs six days via Dhanbad and one day (on Sunday) via Patna, catering to the diverse travel needs of passengers. On 3 February 2006, both the pairs of Howrah – New Delhi Rajdhani Express were upgraded to the LHB coaches, thus paving the way for the replacement and the end of the glorious era of the ICF coaches of Rajdhani Express. While on 2 April 2013, WiFi service was introduced in the train, thus making it the only train of Indian Railways to have WiFi facility in a moving train. And finally on 23 December 2017, the train was upgraded to the Swarna Standards of Indian Railways, laced with modern amenities and facilities for the passengers. The Howrah – New Delhi Rajdhani Express has emerged as a preferred choice for travelers due to its budget fare structure in comparison to air fare structure, offering an economical yet luxurious travel experience. Despite its affordability, the train maintains an occupancy rate of 110% year-round, reflecting its popularity and reliability among passengers. In addition to catering to the demand between Howrah and New Delhi, the Rajdhani Express via Patna has played a crucial role in fulfilling the travel needs of passengers from Madhupur and Jasidih areas. This strategic route not only provides connectivity to major cities but also ensures accessibility for residents of smaller towns and rural areas.
