A Grand Start To The Second Season Of Shristinagar Premier League (SPL)
Bengal Mirror, Asansol, 5th January, 2024: The second season of the Shristinagar Premier League (SPL), a cricket tournament inspired by the Indian Premier League, is poised to commence in grand fashion with ten teams at the Odyssey Club in Shristinagar, Asansol, starting from 5th January, 2024. The inauguration of Shristinagar Premier League (SPL) took place on 4th January, 2024. Teams such as Avengers, Warriors, Predators, Ninja, Dragons, Rebels, Challengers, Mavricks, Panthers and Titans will compete from January 5th to 12th, 2024, following a round-robin league format.. Each match will consist of 8 overs, featuring 8 players in each team, along with 4 additional players. The top 4 teams from the league stage will advance to the semi-finals, which will be contested over 10 overs each. The matches will commence daily from a specific time and extend until a designated time. Every day the matches will start from 4 pm and continue till 10 pm.
The SPL inauguration was a spectacular event, showcasing live music and performances by renowned artists. The ceremony highlighted the unveiling of the SPL Trophy and the jerseys for the ten participating teams.
“The first edition of SPL was a grand success and that prompted us to hold the second edition even on a larger scale. All the games will be broadcasted live on large screens, providing spectators with the opportunity to indulge in the matches while enjoying food and relaxation with their families. It promises to be a delightful time for everyone, contributing to the existing excitement in and around Asansol,” said Mr. Binay Chaudhary, Group Head- Property Management, Shristinagar, Asansol.
Mr Sandeep Patil, Indian former cricketer, India national age-group cricket manager and former Kenya national team coach, who guided the underdogs to the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup is expected to grace the closing ceremony on the 12th January, 2024 and give away the trophy to the winners.
